About Easton PA

The county seat of Northampton County, Easton is a small city located at the confluence of the Delaware River and the Lehigh River. It is situated between Philadelphia and New York City, making it a much-traveled stopover between these two metropolitan areas. It is the easternmost city in the Lehigh Valley, and is home to over 26,000 individuals. The city itself is segmented into four sections: Historic Downtown, The West Ward, The South Side and College Hill. Each section of the city is extremely diverse, and offers a range of cultures, races and ethnic backgrounds.

Once a bustling industrial city, Easton specialized in the production of anthracite coal mined from the nearby mountains. Canals alongside the rivers provided a simple way to transport this coal to surrounding areas. Today, Easton is home to a number of unique businesses ranging from small boutique shops and restaurants to large corporate headquarters, including the Crayola Crayon factory. As of the 2010 census, the median household income in Easton was $38,704.
