What to expect

When you choose us for your estate jewelry appraisal, here is what to expect and how you can prepare for your appointment.

Preparing for the appraisal

Before visiting our store for an estate jewelry appraisal, gather any paperwork, previous appraisals, or other documents to authenticate the piece(s) you want to appraise. It is also helpful if you know something about the piece’s history to help us determine its age.

During the appraisal

Jewelry appraiser 2During an estate jewelry appraisal, we will test your estate jewelry for metal purity, assess the stones, and look for signatures, trademarks, and other distinguishing markings. If you have a large collection of jewelry that you’d like appraised, we will sort the pieces by carats and metals to help us assess them more efficiently. Then, we’ll research any unique items that might hold value, consulting our vast network of industry professionals as needed. Once our assessment is complete, we will assign three values to your estate jewelry:

  • Retail
  • Resale
  • Pure liquidation (or fair market value)

We perform most of our appraisals on the spot unless you have an extensive collection or require a detailed written valuation that require more time to complete.

What’s next?

In most cases, our estate jewelry appraisals with an offer to purchase are valid for two weeks unless your piece’s value isn’t subject to change according to market conditions. During this time, you can decide whether you’d like to keep your item or sell it.  If you’re interested in selling your piece to us, we will make a fair and final cash offer for your consideration.
